This past weekend I got away from the soupy gross Boston air to experience the joy of running amid the rolling hills, mountains, trees and fresh green fields (and pouring rain) of Stowe, VT. Or, as our tour guide at the Ben & Jerry's factory called it, the "Dairy Air" (wokka wokka!).
I've been delayed in writing this post, because I've been having a hard time figuring out how to condense a whole weekend of racing, laughing, joking, sightseeing, hanging out and having fun into such a small space. So, in an exercise in brevity, I'll do this weekend "By the Numbers" style:
THE RACE:
- 8 miles
- 1 vanilla Cliff Shot and 1 packet of lemon-lime energy jelly beans
- 1/2 bottle of blue Gatorade
- Several killer hills
- 3 distinct moments of "Whoah...THIS is why I love to run."
- 10 cows (and 6 bonus horses)
- 1 rediculously intense and painful sting in my arm from a winged demon
- 1 hour and 11 minutes of glorious racing; just under a 9-minute mile the whole way
- 3 beers
- 1 dish of chocolate chip ice cream
- 1 pair of muddy, soaked Mizunos and moldy pink socks
- Two golf umbrellas (one with a handle that looks like a Scottie dog)
- 1 awesome new technical shirt
THE WEEKEND:
- 6 great friends
- 2 condos stuck in the 80's
- 1 cooler of liquid refreshment
- 3 bottles of wine
- Several pints of Switchback (local amazing beer)
- 4 movies
- 1 free sample of strawberry cheesecake ice cream
- 1 apple cider slushie
- 2 large pizzas
- 6 hours in the car (collectively)
- 1 turtle walking along the highway
- 1 hitchhiker
- 1 scary person in a santa suit being chased by 4 people NOT dressed up
- 1 guy riding a bright green bike in a matching outfit/helmet
- countless puns and "that's what he/she said" jokes
- 1 "pool policeman"
